The Asia Cup 2020 has been called off as revealed by the Asian Cricket Council. ACC held a meeting on Thursday, 9th July, and revealed that the tournament now will be played in June 2021.
According to the existing schedule that has been expired now, Asia Cup was all set to be commenced by September. Now, September’s window is left vacant, BCCI can have an opportunity to kick off their cash-rich IPL. If ICC goes ahead for the World Cup T20 cancelation, the mega-window will be available for BCCI and they can utilize the opportunity holding IPL with full swing.
Amidst COVID-19, many countries are still facing travel restrictions. The correlated factors can be a major obstacle in kicking off the tournament, hence, it has been called off.

“Travel restrictions, country-specific quarantine requirements, fundamental health risks, and social distancing mandates have posed as substantial challenges to holding the Asia Cup,” read a statement from the ACC. “Above all, the risks related to health and safety of participating players, support staff and commercial partners, fans, and the cricketing community were deemed to be significant.”
Earlier, Sourav Ganguly, BCCI’s president already unofficially revealed that the tournament has been called off. However, it can be stated officially now.
